Fertilization

Fertilizing is one of the most effective ways to improve your lawn.  Lawns need the proper nutrition to grow and stay thick and healthy.  Fertilizer helps lawn retain its color and density, plus it keeps it resistant to insects, weeds and disease.

6-Step Program

Second Nature’s lawn care program has six cycles:

Cycle 1:  Early Spring: Approximately January/February/March:  Apply pre-emergent crabgrass control and balanced granular fertilizer plus broadleaf weed control as weather permits.

Cycle 2:  Spring:  Approximately March/April:  Apply broadleaf weed control, pre-emergent for crabgrass control and balanced granular fertilizer.

Cycle 3:  Summer:  Approximately May/June:  Apply non-burning organic-based or slow-release granular fertilizer plus micronutrients and broadleaf weed control as needed.

Cycle 4:  Late Summer:  Approximately July/August:  Apply balanced granular fertilizer plus micronutrients and broadleaf weed control.

Cycle 5:  Fall:  Approximately September/October:  Apply balanced granular fertilizer and weed control as needed.

Cycle 6: Late Fall:  November/December:  Apply balanced granular fertilizer.  This is one of our most important cycles.  It helps grass store food for the winter and promotes healthy root growth.

Weed Control

Weeds can pop up throughout your lawn and are usually very noticeable due to their different color and texture.  While they ruin the look of your landscape, they also compete with your grass plants for valuable water and nutrients.  Second Nature Lawn Care experts take the necessary steps to eradicate them to ensure you have a lush, green and healthy lawn.

Disease Control

Many lawn diseases are microscopic organisms that spread through air or water.  Their spores are like seeds that produce new infections wherever they travel.  Our professionals at Second Nature Lawn Care have the expertise to diagnose diseases in your lawn.  Let them assess any damage and develop a plan of action to get your lawn in top shape.

Insect Control

Insects and insect-like pests can damage your lawn.  Some infest the soil and attack the plant roots while others feed on the leaves and stems.  Many insects can cause your grass to turn brown and die, or their unsightly mounds can smother your grass.  Controlling some insects can be difficult, so let our experts at Second Nature Lawn Care come up with a plan that specifically targets the pests in your lawn.

Grub Control

White grubs are the larvae of several species of beetles.  They’re the most serious lawn problem.  Grubs are usually found in a curled position when they’re disturbed. They can stay in the soil for as long as three years.  Grubs burrow around the roots of the grass and feed on them.  They’re a gourmet meal for moles, skunks and birds who can tear up your lawn searching for them.  Our experts at Second Nature Lawn Care will tailor a plan to target your particular grub problem.

Core Aeration

Aeration is also a good way to renovate your lawn.  It’s a process in which small cores of soil and grass are removed from your lawn to allow air, water and nutrients into the root zone.

Murfreesboro Lawn Care
Soil Testing

Lawn care experts at Second Nature test your soil before they determine a plan of action for your lawn-care needs.  Testing reveals what nutrients are in your soil and the pH of your soil.  With answers to those questions our professionals can decide nutrient and organic additive needs to ensure the proper mix for your specific lawn.

Landscape Bed Pre-Emergents

One of the most effective ways to control weeds in your lawn is to apply a pre-emergent herbicide, which is a chemical that prevents unwanted growth.  Second Nature Murfreesboro lawn care professionals will use pre-emergent weed killers to control annual grass weeds.  The herbicides don’t destroy weeds or their seeds, but they control them by inhibiting cell division in the young root system.
